TV watching........

The new tv season has started and there are a few shows I will check out to see if like them. Some of them will not start until mid October or a bit later.

I have already started to watch a few. I just read my niece's blog and she has Breaking Amish on her list. I started to watch it after I had watched Amish Out of Order. I just found it interesting and showed how the Amish lived life after leaving their community. It was done by the National Geographic Channel.

There is also a series on Nat'l Geographic titled American Colony: The Hutterites. It shows the life in a Hutterite community which is kind of funny.

Before I would see them in malls buying fabric and they are also selling their produce in farmers market and I always buy from them because they sell them cheaper.

Another show I have watched a few times is a reality based show about Canadian Border Patrol in Vancouver both on the border to the US and at the airport. I can't seem to remember the title. The music being played at the start of the show is "Would you lie to me?" Very interesting and showed how observant these officers are and how very often passengers/tourists/new immigrants would lie.

I still watch The Voice but it is beginning to be a bit boring except for the four coaches who are now becoming good at being a bit mean and nasty to each other....I guess just for show. I just want to see what will be different this season.

Another series on TLC is The Secret Princes, a show about princes and lords and rich men who are looking for love and don't know how to make coffee, do laundry, toast bread, buy groceries or even boil water. Spoiled men who can't find love within their own social circles and looking for women who will love them for who they are and not for what they are..... rich men! ....give me a break!!!

TGIF.....

Yes, I am glad it is Friday. It had been so hectic and chaotic at work. This is a well deserved two days off.

I believe I have a lunch date with the lovely ladies of Laidley today. I am sure it would be fun and interesting. I don't know where yet but I am sure it will be one of two regular places we always meet.

Sadly, I might have to work until 6:00 today. Oh well....

I have been walking to work and I did it all this week including today. It is a lot better than walking when it is too hot, just a bit cooler is nicer, I don't sweat.

Today, we had the candy/nut man come by at work. We all tend to get some snack items. Last time I tried the coconut M&Ms and now I am addicted to it....bought another bag of it today. I know I should not get it, being diabetic.

Another brand of potato chips that I like, not too salty and kettle cooked which I prefer, I get them at Rexall Drugs and cheap. Sometimes store brand are better than named brand.

They call it jasmine plant here, we have this plant in the Philippines and it smells so nice. The one corner of my living room was smelling so nice when it was in bloom. I hope it will have blooms again. Great buy from Walmart...$2.97.

    Enjoy the weekend.

Mistakes.....learn a lesson

I don't usually blog about my work but I never thought I would still be with this company. Anyway, for some reason, mostly personal, I am not comfortable here.

I stay just to prove a point. Another former officemate of mine has experienced a "what goes around comes around" moment. But I believe it is mostly her fault.

Lessons to learn....be truthful, do not embellish your resume and only talk about your real work experience and what you can and cannot do. The rest can be learned. I guess the right word would be present your authentic self and be true to who you are. Yes, you have to sell yourself but do not overdo it or it will come back to haunt you.

Take this as a learning experience and move on. I feel bad for her but she has to own it.

Short and to the point post.

Finally.......

After weeks maybe months trying to get a flight from Aeroplan to visit my sister in California, I finally got my tickets. I was ready to call and rant on my blog how hard it is to get a flight and finally the ordeal is over.

So I will be celebrating US Thanksgiving with my sister and her husband and mother-in-law and I am sure it would be a blast. I will probably see one of my cousins as well.

I don't know if I would venture to go out for the Black Friday shopping as it gets nasty at times. I don't even do the Boxing Day shopping here.

Now, I have something to look forward to, not that my life is so boring. Planning on what I want to do and what I would like to buy will be the order of the day.

Sadly I will miss my office Christmas party which is being held in Calgary. Oh well, I will have time to get ready as we only work half the day or maybe just two hours as they will be driven to Calgary and put up in a hotel.

So that is it....for you folks who have been asking when I will take my holidays...this is the answer.
Now I am going to try for another trip sometime early next year when it will be so darn cold here.

Oh, oh, I hope my sister will not start counting sleeps yet.

Enjoy the rest of the week.....

Just a short visit....

A friend came to Edmonton for a very short visit. He arrived Friday night and stayed at his fave hotel which is very convenient for the things he wants to do.

On Saturday morning I gave him a call and we decided to meet at the downtown farmers market. We went around and I bought my usual peanuts. I had gone the night before to buy some fruits and veggies so I did not get a lot there.

We walked back to my office to get the vehicle and on the way showed him a decor in one of the stores in our building and he took pictures of it.

Then on to St. Albert to Enjoy Centre. We looked around and I was looking for another kind of sea salt but they did not have new ones. I bought palmier at the bakery and they were good.

He took me to lunch and we ate at Tony Roma's as it was the nearest one.

For the first time in a while I remembered to take pictures but after we had started on the flat bread.

Then we came back to my place and he took more pictures of the view from my balcony and I had to take him back to meet his nephew.

It was a fun get together.

Calamari caesar salad which was quite good, just the right amount of dressing.

Steak and mushroom flatbread. It was a bit too cheesy for me.

Projects.....

Here are some pictures of projects that I have done on the weekend. I also have new plants in my place and new stuff I have tried or crazy about.

I am trying my best to show before and after of my place. This will be a short post.

Hump day and I am looking forward to the weekend. I also have started to watch the new series on tv and the old ones as well.

This post is going all over.....

My youngest son stayed with me for a while and had now moved on, thank goodness! He left a foam mattress and I hated to throw it so I cut it up in 3 equal pieces and covered it and made into floor cushion. Turned out well, I think.

This is the table cloth I sewed over the weekend. The plant/leaves I cut from a big plant I have that broke off and it looks good and it is still looking good 3 weeks later.

The after look of the dining table with the placemats and a nice bonsai.I might have to do a seat cover later.

I have always wanted to get different kinds of salt and it is hard to find them. I have been lucky lately to have found these. I only use sea salt except when I am baking I use ordinary salt.
From left to right...Brittany grey sea salt, Cyprus black sea salt, Himalayan pink sea salt, Red Hawaiian sea salt, Persian blue sea salt and Barbecue sea salt which is really good with steak/meat.

That's it for now. Thanks for stopping by.

Enjoy....Part 2

I have previously posted about this place a while back. This is located in St. Albert where I lived for more than 10 years and I used to go an visit it...it was known then as Holes Greenhouse.

This place is more than just green house and there are different stores there that it is interesting to visit and just browse at all the things that are for sale.

I went with my cousin who was visiting and she enjoyed the visit and this weekend, I will take another friend who is visiting this coming weekend.

The jam and preserves section

Garden items or home decor

Water feature decor for the garden, really beautiful and different

Some of the items at the home decor store

It is just a nice and relaxing place to visit. Next time I might try to have a meal there. I also have taken pictures of the plants on display there. I hope you will enjoy, when you have  a chance to vixit Enjoy.

Weekend projects

I was trying to get back to sewing and so the last weekend, I sewed table cloth for my dining table and floor cushion. I also did a cover for my glass top night table in my bedroom.

I have been trying to finish changing my bedroom decor and I had a hard time trying to find the frames that I wanted. Finally this weekend, we were out shopping and looking for floor lamp and by accident found a store with the right frames that will go well with what I have started in my bedroom.

Back at Ikea as I had returned a side table because it was damaged and got myself a bonsai plant.
Also I found placemats at Fabricland, I was there to buy fabric to sew placemats but found the right one and coordinating colour to my table cloth.

My apologies as I have mentioned I will post pictures, I will soon.

Enjoy this week, I am looking forward to a visit of a friend...I have known him for 25 years or more.

What the truck?

This was an event sponsored by our community league last month. Food trucks were parked by the Victoria Promenade on a Friday night and the residents and anybody can go and order from the 10 trucks that participate.

It was a very hot afternoon. It started at 5:00 and went on till 9:00 pm. There were all kinds of food, from Chinese to Filipino and the usual pub grub. As always there were a few favourite trucks and the line up was quite long.

I did not realize that there were that many food trucks in the city. I am only aware of the few who park close to my building downtown at lunch time.

I was with a former office mate who does not like being exposed to the sun, which was a bummer as she kept complaining of the heat. I managed to line up for my mini donuts and that was about it.

Next time, I know not to ask her to go with me.

Three of the food trucks that were there.

Rant and rave......

I do not want to post negative things after I have not posted for a while but I will do it anyway.....

Why do drivers think they have the right to get upset when someone honks at them for still going when left turn signal has turned red, and they still continue to drive?

Restaurants who serve fish and chips and the batter is like the lemon chicken you get in bad Chinese restaurant and you can hardly find the fish.....Ricky's Grill....take it off your menu...really nasty.

Friend/s who think that someone is responsible for their social life....try to be a bit more friendly and maybe you can have more friends.

Companies who keep calling even if you tell them you are not interested and not answering their call or hanging up on them, do they just not get it?

Co-worker who thinks she knows it all....but not really!!!

People who walk and text messages, is it really that important, they can't wait to get back inside....sometimes they are being close to being run over, they are so into texting. It is the same with people who after getting a seat in a restaurant and gets on their cell phones right away.

Just a few of these and I am already feeling better....I believe I might just do this regularly!!!

Enjoy.....
