I am back.....

I know it had been a while since I posted. I have been busy and was running out of creative juice. Hopefully, I will have some interesting posts.

The weather has been nasty and it is April and it is still cold. I have had a few exciting experiences. I had been called to a medical emergency and was able to help our day porter. He is new in the country and has no relatives. I drove him to the hospital and stayed with him until he was admitted. I still check his blood pressure every day.

On a sad note, a friend of mine who also lived in the building was found dead in her suite by her daughter. I did not learn about it until two weeks later. I am sad that I was not able to attend her funeral. Rest in peace. I will miss you.

On a happy note, I am going on a well deserved vacation with a good friend of mine. I am looking forward to it.

Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Family Day

Today is Family Day in some parts of Canada. In Alberta, it is celebrated today. I believe British Columbia celebrated it last Monday. And other provinces have some kind of holiday this month.

It is nice to have the long weekend and a break from the cold weather. I am celebrating it starting early my spring cleaning. Saturday I cleaned up my closet and took out clothes I have not worn in a year and donating it to charity as they are in very good condition. Then Sunday, I washed kitchen cupboards and reorganized them so it is easy to find things. I am trying to find my dough hook for weeks now and if I am not mistaken it fell behind the fridge, so tomorrow I will find out for sure. I want to bake bread and don't want to knead dough without my dough hook.

For dinner, we had spring rolls and curried beef. I also made mars bars square for dessert although I can only eat just a little square of it. I am doing paleo diet with a lady from work and it is helping me control my blood sugar which has been in the 5.4 to 5.8 range. This is metric for those who are wondering.

Ok, I will now try to enjoy this extra day and hopefully find the dough hook so I can have fresh bread. I would also like to try to make Hawaiian buns which I love but can't get here. Enjoy the day with your family.

Happy Valentine's Day

To everyone, Happy Valentine's Day. I, myself am not fond of this so called special day because everything becomes so expensive. Two weeks ago I bought orchids and I paid $9.98 per plant. Over the weekend and just yesterday, they were $29.95. Roses which are usually $10.00/dozen are now $39.00. And why? Just because it is Valentine's Day!!! What a rip off!! I would rather get something a week after today.

I should not complain as I came home yesterday with 3 bottles of champagne, Grand Marnier and Patron tequila. What a Valentine's day haul and I do not even have a boyfriend. LOL! My son asked, no vodka?

It is Friday and I am glad it is a long weekend. Family Day, for those who do not have this holiday. Enjoy the weekend and spend it with the family. Thanks for stopping by.

Good customer service

I work in a building which is owned by our company. So I know the tenants well. We have a restaurant/sports bar on the main floor. We often have lunch there. The food is good and the service has been very good. In the past few days, we have been there and two of our office mates have received bad service. One ordered the special of the day and when it came it was not cooked well and she had to return it as it was still pink or raw and you could get salmonella. It took a while to get the replacement and she wanted to take it back to the office, She was charged the regular price and not the special price. I was told about it and told her I will speak with the chef. After explaining, he was nice enough to give her a gift card for $25.00. I do not expect that, maybe just give her the special price as it was the kitchen's fault that the chicken was not cooked properly.

Today, it was a steak that was ordered medium rare and was rare, and one who ordered a chicken salad but no chicken. So I was there and witnessed it. I emailed the chef and he has not replied. I give credit where credit is due and I am a person who wants good service and in return will give more than standard tips. So I hate witnessing incidents like this. I will wait and see what the explanation would be. I am glad it has not happened to me personally. Or I will be posting and venting here. For now, I will not name the business.

Hello.....I'm back

It has been almost two months since the last time I have posted. I had a short sabbatical from blogging. I also have not been feeling well and going to all kinds of medical appointments and lab tests. I spent Christmas holiday with my sister in San Jose California and had a wonderful time. I enjoyed shopping with her and my brother-in-law. We also had a nice trip to a casino resort with their couple friend G and J. G won at the casino and he treated us to a buffet lunch. They also invited us to a very enjoyable and yummy dinner and while there, I picked apples and grapefruit at night with flashlight so we can see the fruits.

I also had fun with trying to find my favorite fruit cherimoya. It took a while to find them. But now I know exactly which grocery store sells them. On my way home, I got caught in that storm that hit the eastern US and our flight was delayed for more than 6 hours.

Back at work and going for more tests. I might have to reduce my work hours if I continue to feel tired easily. I am also considering moving to one of the condos owned by our company. I looked at it the other day and like it but it will be a longer drive to work which I am not too sure I want to do every day especially in the winter time.

Today, I am just taking it easy and doing a bit of spring cleaning. I hope to post a bit more. Thanks for stopping by.

It has been a while.....

I was talking to two friends of mine today and the topic of why I have not blogged in a while came up. I really do not know why but I can't seem to think of what to blog. It is not for lack of things happening in my life but I just thought some are just too personal.

I finally got my Kindle Fire HDX and I have been getting used to it and I have read a book and it would be nice to have it when I travel.

Maybe it is the weather. I am really beginning to hate winter that when the temperature went down to -42 one day last week or was it two weeks ago, I thought of becoming a snow bird when I retire.

This weekend, some snow and then the nasty freezing rain on Saturday night while we were on our way to some kind of volunteer work. The fact that I also worked Saturday till about 2:30 pm did not help my feeling depressed. Then today it was melting as it was 4 degrees.

In a few days I am on my way to visit my sister and whenever I am there, we always have a good time and crazy fun time. Lots of shopping. I have my bags packed and I hope I have not forgotten anything.

After this I am starting to look for trips I will take next year....something different. Well, last few days at work. I am off Thursday to get some rest so I am well rested for my trip.

Hopefully I will start blogging again. Thanks for stopping by.

Philippines....

Our thoughts are with the survivors of the biggest typhoon that just hit the Philippines. For a while I did not see the news but knew that it was a bad one. I saw coverage of it finally on BBC. And then on CBC and CTV. Then I was watching CNN and saw that Anderson Cooper would be reporting from the Philippines.

I thought then that this is probably worst as Anderson always goes to the most devastated are of any natural disasters. Sure enough it was. The pictures of the area and the survivors could make a macho man cry.

So every night during AC360 I would watch and after about 2 days, it seems like some, actually a few Filipinos did not like what he was reporting. And one reporter did a blind item on him which did not come as blind really. But if she thought, I would not mention her name here, that the Filipinos would support what she did...well she had it coming....nasty backlash from the people. It was interesting to read the comments and I hope somebody sent AC the link so he would know that 99% of the people supported him.

I also hope that with all the donations, that most of it will go to the survivors and not the pocket of some politicians. No wonder the people do not trust the officials from previous experience.

As what most Filipinos know, we are very resilient people and we can move on. Let us all try to help in any way we can. Our prayers are with those who will have to rebuild their lives.
