When you have lemons, make lemonade.....

A few weeks back I was at the grocery store (Save on Foods) and looking for different fruits when I saw packages of Meyer lemons. I got two packages and when I got home I made lemonade. Meyer lemons are thin skinned lemons and sweet and tart at the same times.

I did not put a lot of sugar and it was really good. I don't see them a lot in the store so when I saw them I knew I had to get them.

Here they are, not too big but shiny and smooth skinned. When I was squezzing them, the oil from the skin I can smell from my hands.

A very refreshing pitcher of lemonade.

A few days ago, I saw them again at the store and bought another package and made a different kind of lemonade.

This time I added lime slices and strawberry slices. Cool and refreshing!

A memorial......

A day after our ambassador of goodwill, Andy passed away, I have only gone into our lobby the morning after I have found out that he had died.

I have been down to the lobby everyday after I have left my job here in the building. Last Tuesday, I went down as usual and when I was checking my mail box and glanced at the corner where he usually parked his wheelchair and found he was not there, it took a lot of self control not to cry.

As fast as I could, I went to the elevator and to the parkade. Now I have to get my Metro paper by myself in the afternoon when I go home.

That Tuesday afternoon, this is what I found in the corner of the lobby.

Residents have started to put a little memorial corner on the same spot where he parked his wheelchair. And they stop by and talked to whoever is there telling stories about Andy.
After two days....

Now there is also a book there where you can sign and tell your experience about him. There is his copy of Metro and a Werther's candy which he would give to his favourite residents.
I like our community. There are 250 suites here and he must know more than half of the residents.
And today, when I finally came down to the lobby, there were more flowers and cards and a lot more stories in the memorial book.

Another one gone....

Early tonight a friend from my building called and told me that a friend of mine had died of a massive heart attack. I have known him for almost 15 years.

He lived in my building when I started in property management. He was then using a cane and it progressed to him being in a wheelchair.

Since I have moved here, he has become a great friend. He gets me my Metro paper every morning before I go to work. We talked for 10 to 15 minutes before I would go down to the parkade. He would call me sweetheart and all kinds of endearing names. We had great laugh and we talked about everything, from my holidays, restaurants, the Oilers, business, my job and the residents of the building.

I am sure the residents will miss him. I saw him last on Saturday afternoon when I went down to get the flyers but did not talk to him as they were outside and I was wearing my flipflops and no jacket. Now I wish I had just gone out just to say hi.

I know tomorrow would be emotional when I go down to the lobby to check my mail and not see him where he sat beside the green leather chair which I would occupy when I come down for our usual chit chat.

Andy, Rest in Peace and God Bless You. I will miss you.

I am not sure what music he listens to but I think this song about friendship is a good one to dedicate to him.

Pictures.....

For a few weeks I have not been able to post with pictures and I don't know how that happened. So I have not taken pictures of anything but I have posted about a dessert I did for Christmas without pictures and before I lose my computer's capability to post pictures I am posting the picture for now and will write the recipe on my recipe page.

So P....here is the picture.

Refreshing tropical dessert.

Slow cooked sweet and sour ribs which was delish.

Since receiving the slow cooker, I have tried all kinds of recipes including chile which turned out really good. I have put it on top of fries, hot dog and used it as dip for nacho chips or just it ate it with corn bread, which is a new recipe I have found and tweaked and turned out yummy.

Friendship......

When I started blogging, I have posted about friendship. A while back, my sister blogged about this topic with a different twist. She was sort of dropped by a close friend without really knowing why. That friendship is now really over....dead.

Maybe two weeks ago I read my niece's blog about the same topic and then last Friday, I went out with a very good friend and she mentioned that she had dropped a mutual friend of us. It was because she believes that she was being used and when she does not need anything, she does not communicate and I can confirm that is what happened.

Which brings to my topic of why people do this. I unfortunately had dropped two friends and mainly because I think it is becoming toxic. I did not really want to do it but I believe it was best for everyone.

I really do not miss them, I would rather have a few less friends that I really enjoy going out with and that I trust no matter what happens. For whatever reason, I think there is a time limit or expiration date on some friendship and there are ones where you do not really get a lot of phone calls but once you do, it still feels good and you carry on like there was no interruption.

I guess that happens to couples who divorce and are still good friends or some former partners and are still in very good terms. I think it depends on what kind of special relationship one has with another person.

Sometimes jealousy or envy can be the cause of friction. No matter what friends are important and we should cherish the ones we have now and let them know.

Warm, cold, rain, snow....

This has been what the weather was like last week, it was warm plus 6 and 8, then it rained, then it got cold and then snow. But I guess I should not complain, at least we got a break from the usually cold weather in January.

Now, hockey is also back. I really do not care whether we have hockey or not. I really do not understand why the lock out....all I know is that it all gets down to money.

Finally I booked my flight to visit my sister again, I hope she does get tired of my visiting but we always have a good time. This time I will try to get their flower garden started as she has brown thumb, I believe. Hopefully, she will agree with me.

I have not been trying any new recipes as I am trying to lose weight. Ever since I started this job about a year ago, I have gained 10 pounds, after I had lost before starting the job so here I go again trying to lose it. I should have been more cautious and watched my weight but I enjoy food so much.

I don't know why I still can't post pictures here. I wonder if I can copy and paste. I can't, just tried it.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

An easy refreshing dessert.....

Over the Christmas holidays, I was thinking of what to make for dessert. I thought of creme caramel, cheese cake, choco flan and since I could not decide, I went online to look for a very easy recipe.

I found this dessert that looks so yummy and started to check if I have all the ingredients in my pantry and I did except for pina colada yogurt. I had asked someone to get it for me on his way to coming over.

I prepared the base for it and just added the yogurt and other stuff just before dinner.
When I have time and not too busy at work, I will post it on my recipe page.

For some reason, I can't post a picture so I will post it later, the dessert is called Tropical Delight.
