A very sad news....

After I got back to the office after enjoying our trip to Taste of Edmonton, I had this strong feeling to check my cell phone. I don't take my phone out of my purse when I am at work. If it is an important call, people know to call my office number.

So I got the phone and noticed I have mail. So I checked it and it was a very short message from ny niece...Tita Nil is gone. That's it. It was sad but was expected. It is hard to get a message like that at work as you can't really process it because you have to continue working.

It hit me once I got home. I will miss her as she always stay with me when she went to Yellowknife to visit her mom. We had fun and talk a lot about everything. I also remember when she drove with us when we left Yellowknife to go to Edmonton. We also went to Waterton and that was really a very nice trip.

There is only one member of her family left, her daugher. Her parents died of cancer, her young daughter of cancer and the same with her brother and a son from a tragic accident and she succumbed to her cancer as well. I am glad though that it was quick and she did not suffer long.

You will always be in my heart and pray that you now have found peace and will meet your family in heaven.

Does this mean?...

It is early morning and I can't seem to get to sleep. It is July 1, Canada Day. While lying in bed, it just occured to me that the saddest day of my life has come and gone and I did not realize it until now.

June 29 is that day. My nephew had passed away and usually it will just come to me automatically. For some reason, I did not remember it nor it came to me. Does this mean, that finally the healing and closure has come to me? I feel that I have finally accepted it and I had moved on.

It is not that I don't think of him, it is that feeling of not being so sad anymore. It is knowing that he is at peace and I believe that. While I was at my sister's place in May, we started to talk about opening a box containing his stuff. We were going to do it and then we just forgot. I even asked my sister. will the contents of the box make us cry?

I have a picture of him with me taken when I visited them in Toronto and I have that on my night table. I only had put it there this year and I don't cry now when I look at it. Sometimes, I think of what he would be like if he were alive and what he would be doing. At times I think of all the electronic gadgets and wonder if he would have bought them. But most times, I look at the picture and feel at peace. So I guess time has finally healed this wound.

Gino, we will remember you always as you are in our hearts.

100 years.......

Today, up north in Yellowknife, a wonderful woman is celebrating her 100th birthday. That's right 100. She has been so looking forward to this. The last time I was there to visit, she talked about it a lot and I am so glad she reached this great milestone.

I was told there was a big write up about her in the paper and a friend of mine has been so kind to send me a copy.

A lot of her relatives have come from different places to celebrate it with her, unfortunately I could not go because of work related responsibilities.

I have called her while the party was going on and she had a hard time hearing so I will call her again just to check up how it feels to be 100.

So Wiwa, a very heartfelt wish for a really great birthday.

Sandy and aftermath.....

Before Sandy, there were a lot of activities in our building for charities. I always try to support them by buying hot dogs or baked goods or books. These always happen before Christmas and it is all for a good cause.

It is also gratifying to watch all the heroic things people do for others. As they say, it is during these times that you see the good in people. Watching the news, the worst of it is now almost over but the rebuilding is just starting.

They are lucky to be alive and as one person being interviewed said...they are material things and can be replaced. What a good attitude to have.

Now that it is close to Christmas, there will a lot more going on to try and get stuff for people who might not have anything for the holidays. Please let us all give generously.

I heard this song a while back and I think it is appropriate.

Good news.......

Before I had posted pictures of my niece's daughter who got accepted to a hockey school out west.

Today, while talking to my niece, she told me that she is now a member of Major Midget league, while she is also playing in a triple A league.

I hope I am correct in all these divisions. Anyway, we are so happy and proud of her.

Maybe, just maybe there is a chance of her being in the Olympics in the future. I have attended a few of her games and must say she is good.

I might go to a big tournament she is going to over the Christmas holiday.

Will post if there is any news. Way to go Vickie.......

Thank you......

A big, big thank you to all my friends who sent emails, cards, presents, texts and phone calls, flowers and a cake for my birthday.

CG, the ticket you gave won $2.00. I feel that is a start of my luck with tickets.

I appreciate the thoughts and being remembered.

Thank you. Wow, my shortest post ever!

A kind person.....

A building with 25 floors and hundreds of people living in it is like a small community. The lobby becomes a meeting place where you see people you know or just met.

I have been in my building for more than 3 years and I know a lot of people but there are also movements and people I like move out and on to a different building or bought homes.

There is one resident here who is retired and every morning he likes to be in the lobby and read his papers or flyers. He uses a wheel chair. I don't get flyers in my mail box as I have put a no flyers note in it.

We have a place where you can get them and this gentleman would get me my paper and flyers every morning on my way to work.

Today, I was sick so I took the day off and when I went out my door to throw a bag of garbage, the paper and flyers were hanging on my door handle.

This is not the first time and I really appreciate that. I like to read my Metro and look at flyers.

What a nice person!!! It makes me feel good that there are kind and wonderful people around.

It's Friday, enjoy the weekend.
