Hot dogs, hot dogs and more hot dogs.....

The past week was barbeque week for our tenants at work. This event was organized by another staff who resigned 4 weeks ago and I had to take over.

It was not bad since the planning was already done and I just have to make sure it went smoothly. Tickets were delivered to each office and the stuff ordered. Thank God it was being catered.

The catering company did a good job. We had to do three buildings and the number was 155 in one building, 300 in another and 700 for the other. The tent was nice and there were tables and chairs for people to enjoy eating outside. although one day we were caught by thunder showers forecasted for the afternoon and I was drenched.

The jumbo dogs were good and the buns were made that day so really fresh.

We had to serve it at lunch, and for some reason, some people complained they did not get tickets, 20 minutes before we were to start serving. Of course we ordered extras but just the same, the notice was put up by the elevators and if you did not have tickets, would you not contact and request before the day of the event?

As it is downtown, there would be all kinds of people trying to get free meals, and sure enough they have all kinds of explanation. They forgot their tickets was the popular one. One said he works in the building and when asked which company, looked up at the name of the building and said it, another old lady asked if it was help yourself and we knew exactly she was not from the building but accommodated her.

So after the first two days, I could not even look at a hot dog, let alone eat one. I appreciate the catering company prepare us Angus beef burger the last day.

I feel like it would be another year before I  could eat another hot dog. As usual pictures later. somebody else took the pictures. Or maybe I should just say, images coming soon.

Enjoy the weekend.

Lots of activities....

This weekend had been busy for the city with all kinds of activities. The Edmonton Indy was on the whole weekend, Capital Ex, Taste of Edmonton, all kinds of farmers market.

I never got to any of it as I was not feeling well after a very stressful week at work. I will still have a chance to go to Taste of Edmonton as it goes on till this Saturday, the same with Capital Ex.

I missed getting my spicy peanuts from the farmers market, hopefully I will get it this coming weekend.

This week I am in charge of summer barbecue for the tenants of our buildings. So I will be eating jumbo hotdogs for 3 days. I am hoping it will not rain but the forecast for Tuesday is showers. I am glad we are setting up tents.

Here are some pictures I have mentioned I will post.

These are the mini cupcakes from Flirt Cupcakes. They were delish!

Another box of cupcakes. They were all different flavours

I tried to take pictures of the fireworks from my phone.

This was taken an hour before fireworks were to begin, the traffic going to downtown centre was getting quite heavy.

Another work week, hopefully it will be easy week for me with all the barbecues going on this week.

Lousy weather.....

The lousy weather started last night with thunderstorm, rain, wind and continued throughout  today. In a way it was nice as I got to do housework. I have been planning to rearrange my bedroom and I have decided to do it during the August long weekend.

This week is the start of Capital Ex....I think they are trying to change the name. We are again planning to go to Taste of Edmonton and try some dishes from different restaurants in the city. I hope they have new menu and new additon.

Last Friday, I had lunch with the ladies of Laidley and it was fun. I am glad that I have kept in touch with them. The Friday before a friend and I went out and had supper at Urban Diner where my son works. We tried the lemon sour cream pie and it was wonderful, smooth and not too sweet.

I looked at their dessert show case and next time I will try the peanut butter cheesecake ball. I was told they have specials of poutines on Wednesdays and another special on another day which for now I can't remember. I will have to make sure to take pictures.

When I visited the ladies at Laidley, I passed by Flirt Cupcakes in the afternoon but it was close to 4:00 and there was not much left so I bought mini cupcakes for the ladies. I remembered to take pictures before they ate them. I will post them later.

Back to the grind....don't work too hard and enjoy the week.

Heat wave.....

Wow, it has been really hot the last few days, I am sweating a lot and taking cold showers. The temperatures have been in the 30s and I just cannot take the heat.

I have been walking to work, morning is not bad but coming home has been nasty. I am even walking on the side where there are shades but still it is just way too hot for me. This afternoon, I felt like I could not walk anymore that I have decided to drive in the next few days.

I have not cooked, I have just made sandwiches and salad and drank a lot of water. I did not turn on the stove or oven at all, did not turn on any lights either. I have even taken shower in the dark.

But the bad news is that it will be like this for the whole week. It is like this in a lot of places, so we are not the only one. We are having brown outs as well.

I just realized that I cannot live in places where the climate is like this. I am starting to like winter and the cold weather......

Thank God, tomorrow in hump day....looking forward to the weekend.

A pleasant surprise......

Last Friday was the last of our Vice President for Business Development and Leasing who is my direct boss. I have worked with him since I started this job about 4 1/2 months ago.

Our office has gone through a restructuring and a lot of staff have been gone. He started 2 weeks before me.

He is really down to earth person and very pleasant and easy to work for. He lets me decide on a lot of stuff and I appreciate that. With all the changes, he decided to leave and move on. He could not tell me that and so I was surprised to find out he was resigning.

We had a good talk on Thursday and on Friday morning, I went to see him to wish him good luck and Happy last day which I have been doing a lot lately.

Then he called me to his office and said he has something to give me. And when he gave me the box, what a surprise....but a pleasant one.

Waterford Crystal

It is a crystal tray for my desk to put pens, business cards, etc.

He told me he does this at every place he had worked at. He gives one person something.
I will treasure this and he will be missed. Good luck and enjoy the short break off work.
I wish you happiness in your next endeavour.

Canada Day....

There should a lot of celebrations, from pancake breakfast, activities at the Legislature, show, and the usual fireworks.

Except it has been raining and quite heavily. I hope that there will still be the fireworks tonight.

I was going out with a friend but decided to just stay home and clean my place.

I will post later if the fireworks is still on.

Happy Canada Day......whatever is left of it. The rain has petered out a bit. Enjoy the extra day off work.

How time flies.....

He would have turned 31 this year. It is so sad that he would not experience a lot of things. Being in a relationship, getting married, being a father, the feeling of having a successful store, going to Las Vegas and attending wedding of his friend. I know he would have loved a return trip to England, going to more concerts and getting all the toys, maybe like kindle fire, latest version of Iphone and all kinds of video games. And most of all being with his family.

Four years ago June 29, he decided that maybe this is not all worth living for. Maybe he is right and is now in a safe place but then again maybe he did not really think of what it would be like for all of us he left behind. I realize and accept now that we will never know and I believe that as time goes on, it really never gets easier especially for his parents and his sister.

There are times when the thought of him just comes up and I wonder why after all these years, the hurt is still strong. I don't know if the saying time heals all wounds is true in this case. I know we will always love him and remember him with the fondest of memories. At times I could still hear his laughter and the way he did things.

The other day, I found one of his business cards and wondered if this was a sign of something. I thought maybe he thinks I have started to forget him, but that is not the case. A week ago I wore one of my earrings and remembered that he bought that particular pair when he was here on a visit and remembered well how he told me, he will choose two pairs and it would be his birthday present for me.

I hope that wherever he is, he knows and believes that he will always be in our hearts and that we miss you very much. Let me just say that you turned out to be such a good and decent human being and as your Tita I could not have been more proud. God Bless...

This was one of the songs played at his funeral. The song was sung by his brother-in-law Mike. I could not download it here and so just chose this one. Mike's version is so lovely, I have a cd of it and play it often.
