Rewind, Reconnect and Reminisce

This will be a regular feature of my blog for a while since I had been reconnecting with friends, ex-boyfriends, relatives, past co-workers and schoolmates. Some were from 35 years ago and it is very interesting to find out what had happened to them, where they are now and what they are doing.

Rewind to 1960's somewhere in the Philippines where we all lived. The first I will feature are members of a family we were friends with since we were young children. Our parents and theirs were friends as well. We hung around each other's home and had dinners, celebrated birthdays together and played together.

They are the Geronimos, Mama Cely, Papa Luis, Chito, Awy, Lani and Alet. Sad to say but Papa Luis has passed on. We all lived in Muntinlupa.

We reconnected through a friend in San Francisco who also grew up with us. This happened after my mother died and they were told about it. Phone numbers were exhanged, calls were made and we started communicating.

Now we call regularly and reminisce. It is such a good feeling to be able to remember parts of my childhood through them and all the things we did. Mama Cely and Lani and her family live in Los Angeles, California and the rest of the family still  live in the Philippines. Hopefully soon, we will meet again. My sister had met them last year and had a great time.

These pictures were taken in the late 60's and we can't remember what the occasion was.
I guess even then we were fashionistas!!!

Fruit tarts

Last Saturday I went to the farmer's market so this is what I did with some of the fruits I have bought. I put apricot glaze on the tarts but it does not show up well on the picture. Then I made some spinach dip and had it with baguette I got as well. This weekend I might bake some muffins and whatever else I have in the pantry I can  use. I might try the creme caramel recipe with melted white chocolate.

Weekend shopping

Last Saturday I went with a friend to the farmer's market. I bought mostly fruits because they look so good and fresh. On our way home we passed by a store, Who Cares? and they sell shoes, boots and women's clothing and accessories.

My intention was to buy a pair of comfy boots, but they never had my size as usual which is my biggest problem when buying shoes. While looking around I saw a nice pair of shoes and decided to try it and they were so comfortable, I decided to buy it. It is by Michael Kors.

So I will go again another time to look for winter boots.

First day at new job

Yesterday was my first day at work and it went well. I took Edmonton public transit for the first time since I moved to this city. I walked home for the exercise (16 city blocks) and it was exhilirating. I will probably drive starting next week as the company will pay for my parking. I will have more stuff to post soon with pictures and features I will have each week or month.

Busy Weekend

Friday night, I went for an hour walk along Victoria Promenade which is a very scenic walking trail along the river valley. Saturday morning, a friend and I will go to the farmer's market and have breakfast. Then I am helping a friend do her resume and then dinner with 5 of my friends at a restaurant we have not decided yet.
Sunday, will be rearranging my living room as I am downsizing and selling some stuff.

I am also thinking of what stuff I will put in my blog. I have some ideas of things/stuff I will feature and it should all start in October.

Last day at work

Yellow roses from Ann
Today was my last day at work and it was not as difficult as I thought it would be. I got yellow roses from a friend ( thanks Ann!) and I only had to work for 3 hours. Then I visited a very close friend of mine who is like a second mother to me. She had quadruple bypass and it looks like it did not really work. We had lunch at our favorite Japanese restaurant, Ichiban. Then on to our favorite bakery, Bon Ton to get sourdough bread, light rye and a baguette.

New Job

Well, I went for my interview last Monday and accepted a new job Assistant Property Manager. It is located downtown in the Corporate Office so I will have to take the transit. In the meantime, it is hard to say goodbye to residents. One retired lady gave me a thank you card and I got emotional with what she wrote, another gave me a bottle of chardonnay. Friday will be a difficult day.

But I have to move on and I feel that this job will be really interesting. Longer Christmas break, short working day, and hopefully new friends. I start this coming Monday. Also I am looking for a new home. I looked at a condo and liked the building and the suite. I will decide if I will take it or keep looking.

Interview

Monday, I am going for a job interview and it feels weird to be going as I thought I would have ended my career with the company I am working for now. But there have been changes I am not comfortable with and rather than be miserable, I am going to try and find another job where I will learn new things, meet new people and hopefully will be happy. They have already checked out my references so I feel good about it.

Blogging

I decided to start my own blog after I have followed my niece and her husband's blogs. I found it interesting to read things about them I did not know about. It was a way of following what is happening to them and what they are all about. So here I am with my own blog and hopefully people will find out things about me they did not know about. I just don't know how far I will go with it and how much I will post. So welcome to my world.
